The global Skift Travel Health Index is 84 points (-2 pp MoM) for October 2022. Discover the latest insights from the Skift team in the Skift Travel Health Index: October 2022 Highlights.

Each month the Skift Travel Health Index provides an update of travel performance in 22 countries around the world. As one of Skift’s data partners, we provide flight data (powered by OAG Metis) to enable the reporting of travel performance along with other key data points - together this creates the Skift Travel Health Index, a vital source to track the travel industry’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The key takeaways from October's report are:

  • The final push to full travel industry recovery seems more stubborn than initially thought.
  • In October all regions registered a decline in performance compared to the month before.
  • All countries, with the exception of China and Russia, performed much better in October 2022 than in October 2021 or October 2020. This shows that the overall trend is upward.
  • Car rental jumped up above 2019 levels of performance and joined vacation rentals
as the two strongest performing sectors.

"The final push to full travel industry recovery seems more stubborn than initially thought. Continuing uncertainties and headwinds suppressed growth in October, with the Skift Travel Health Index sitting around the 85% mark since June with little movement."  - Wouter Geets
