The challenge

Seeing the rapid growth of virtual interlining (200m+ bookings a year!), Airsiders wanted to provide a solution to airlines and airports that improved customer experiences. Their mission was to make it easier to connect between any carrier, no matter if low-cost or full service, whilst having seamless baggage transfers and disruption support. The team wanted to empower airlines to sell more seats and provide a full-service connection that made strategic airline partnerships possible. 

To do so, Airsiders needed access to a broad range of aviation datasets. One example is Schedules data,  which they need to inform their operations. Airsiders needed an API that could be called by a variety of parameters, for example flight number, airport, airline, or date. The airport level data would allow Airsiders to see which airlines are operating at what time and to where, to see if they can build a connection and allow the baggage to transfer all the way through. 

The solution

With Schedules and Seats Data in Flight Info API, Airsiders enhanced its two primary business products, the first of which was Volario. Powered by virtual interline (VI) technologies, the Volario platform is purpose-built to enable Airsiders to make their VI service available to travellers directly, as well as via metasearch and the websites of partner airlines. 

The results

With the help of OAG Schedules and Seats Data in Flight Info API, Airsiders was able to create its own reports and analytics to use with airlines in conversations, encouraging growth, capacity and connectivity potential. They power virtual interlining services at major airports, bridging the gap between full-service and low-cost carriers, enhancing connectivity and offering more travel options to passengers.
