The global Skift Travel Health Index is 81 points (-3 pp MoM) for November 2022. Discover the latest insights from the Skift team in the Skift Travel Health Index: November 2022 Highlights.
Each month the Skift Travel Health Index provides an update of travel performance in 22 countries around the world. As one of Skift’s data partners, we provide flight data (powered by OAG Metis) to enable the reporting of travel performance along with other key data points - together this creates the Skift Travel Health Index, a vital source to track the travel industry’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The key takeaways from November's report are:
- Travel’s performance is 19% below 2019 levels. It is the second month in a row that we are now seeing performance decline.
- This could be due to persistent high inflation (although there are some signs this is improving), worries about a 2023 recession, and continued high prices for travel products.
- Only two countries showed growth over the past month: Brazil and Thailand.
"The big news coming out over the past month is the shift by the Chinese government to a more “dynamic” Zero-Covid policy. Things are still moving slowly, although in light of the country’s track record over the past two years, things are evolving pretty rapidly...data showed that searches for flights to China surged, especially from the U.S." - Wouter Geets
