Rothna Begum

Rothna Begum

Director of Data, UK

About me

Doyenne of data, industry influencer and part-time yogi.

Since joining OAG in 1997, Rothna has had the opportunity to move around the business from product management to operations to data. Most recently, she earned the appointment of Director of Data. The initial excitement of working with airlines across the globe still hasn't worn off, and it seems the feeling's mutual. At an industry conference (IATA SISC), airlines elected Rothna as SSIM Editor, giving her a huge sense of pride in representing OAG at a forum where she helps steer discussions to address the issues affecting the industry and its technology providers and set new airline industry standards.

In Brief

What originally enticed you to join OAG?

Working at OAG, a global company, offered a certain excitement, dealing with airlines across the world. It is challenging, varied, and gave a good sense of responsibility and I loved the client contact across the globe.

What one tip would you give to someone new at OAG?

Be curious. Learn as much as you can about different areas of the business and how they interact so you gain a more holistic view.

When she's not at OAG, Rothna recharges by doing yoga, sports and spending quality time with loved ones. Although she says the "world’s too big to visit the same place twice", looking out to Robben Island from atop Table Mountain in Cape Town is a travel memory highlight.

Simona Vabale

Simona Vabale

General Manager, Lithuania

About me

Culture shaper, local liaison and green thumb.

A set of serendipitous circumstances led Simona to OAG, perfectly timed with our Lithuanian office opening. As an in-country HR executive for multinational companies, Simona ensures her companies thrive in the local market by creating and implementing world-class HR strategies and establishing a strong framework for recruitment, development and retention. At OAG, she's in charge of shaping corporate culture at our new development centre in Kaunas.

In Brief

What drew you to OAG?

Set of values, passion for the business, mature and sustainable view on business management and people. After meeting with the Leadership team, I was impressed and inspired by how much they enjoy OAG.

What's your biggest challenge at OAG so far?

I think the most challenging yet enjoyable part is developing the right culture, mindset and behaviour within the Lithuania office. We have a great team that is ready to accept the challenge!

To relax and practice mindfulness, Simona loves the process of gardening almost as much as the result. She's intent on making the outside look just as good as the inside of the new house she and her partner designed and essentially built themselves.

Seth Bailey

Seth Bailey

Airlines, Airport Services and Consultants Sales Manager, US & CA

About me

Self-starter, aviation enthusiast and inquiring mind.

OAG was a natural fit for Seth, who brought real-world aviation industry experience and a business background to the Account Manager role in 2014. These days Seth manages aviation data sales for airlines, airport services and consultants in the US and Canada. He's able to offer a unique perspective and deep understanding of those industries thanks to work experience in aviation ground operations, creating flight schedules and servicing aircraft plus a degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management.

In Brief

What's been the most rewarding endeavour at OAG so far?

The Gulf Air flight status tracker and notifications project, because we put so much time and work into it and we launched new products like the Twitter flight status notifications.

How does OAG celebrate success?

One of the ways is through an employee reward program. Employees can be nominated by their peers company-wide, which makes us feel like one big team even though we're spread out all over the world. It's nice to know your contributions are appreciated.

Seth continues to be a man of action in his free time as well: in the last few years he's gotten married, relocated and started his MBA. He does make sure to take some time out to sail the Potomac River for fun. Also keeping him busy are his two 10-year-old Westie mixes, Wizard and Little Bear.

mayu-life-at-oag

Mayu Shimizu

Client Development Executive, Japan

About me

World traveller, culture expert and karate master.

Mayu's role may be based in the Japanese office, but with a global brand, that role is often expanding into various areas worldwide. With the focal point of being the first contact in Japan, Mayu often has opportunities to get involved in major projects such as website development for the Japanese website. Joining in 2017 as a Client Development Executive was exactly the kind of position Mayu wanted to go for, as she was able to combine her love of travelling with working with colleagues from different offices.

In Brief

What does your day-to-day involve at OAG?

I am able to do a variety of projects that help strengthen the Japanese office's Marketing collateral. From analysing and supporting website amendments to aiding in the production of corporate brochures and event-related materials, my role allows me to be creative in many different ways.

How is it like working with OAG staff?

Even though I'm based in the Japanese office, the other offices are very cooperative and supportive. I love working at OAG.

Travelling all over the world and experiencing different cultures is what comes first to mind for Mayu as outside the office, she loves to explore. Aside from being on the road, Mayu also indulges in martial arts, being a former tutor of karate.
