KEY POINTS

• In May 2024, the busiest domestic airline routes are the same as April 2024 with the same ranking.
• Jeju (CJU) to Seoul (GMP) continues to be the busiest domestic route in the world with 1.2 million seats, however seats per day have decreased by 2% compared to last month.
• Hokkaido’s Chitose Airport (CTS) to Tokyo Haneda (HND) is the second busiest route with 1.0 million seats, a 5% increase in seats per day compared to last month.
• Fukuoka (FUK) to Tokyo Haneda (HND) is in third with 961,596 seats.
• Melbourne (MEL) to Sydney (SYD) has had a 5% increase in seats per day keeping this route in fifth place with 834,989 seats.
• Jeddah (JED) to Riyadh (RUH) has seen the biggest drop in seats per day this month decreasing by 5%.

KEY POINTS

• Half of the routes in the top 10 busiest domestic routes in China for May 2024 have decreased in capacity.
• Beijing (PEK) to Shanghai Hongqiao (SHA) continues to be the busiest domestic route in China in May 2024 with 672,465 seats, a 3% drop in seats per day compared to last month.
• Guangzhou (CAN) to Shanghai Hongqiao (SHA) is the second busiest route with 657,208 seats, this route has had an increase in seats per day of 2% compared to last month.
• Shanghai Hongqiao (SHA) to Shenzhen (SZX) is in third place with 570,529 seats, this route has had the biggest decrease in seats per day in the top 10 this month compared to last month dropping 7%.
• Chongqing (CKG) to Shenzhen (SZX) has moved up into 10th place and Hangzhou (HGH) to Beijing (PEK) has dropped out.  

KEY POINTS

• Atlanta (ATL) to Orlando (MCO) continues to be the busiest domestic route in the USA for May 2024 with 304,774 seats. Las Vegas (LAS) to Los Angeles (LAX) is close behind, with only 12k (4%) seats between the two routes.
• Las Vegas (LAS) to Los Angeles (LAX) has seen the biggest increase in seats per day this month compared to last month, adding 6%, and has moved from being the sixth busiest route to second.
• Honolulu (HNL) to Kahului (OGG) continues in third place with 286,195 seats.
• Denver (DEN) to Phoenix (PHX) has seen the biggest decrease in seats per day this month compared to last month, dropping 6%. This moves this route from being the second busiest domestic route in the USA to the fifth busiest.

KEY POINTS

• Hong Kong (HKG) to Taipei (TPE) continues to be the busiest international route in May 2024 with 539,133 seats.
• Cairo (CAI) to Jeddah (JED) is the second busiest international route with 461,296 seats, however, this route has had a large drop in seats per day this month compared to last month, dropping 14%.
• Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Singapore Changi (SIN) has moved up a place to be the third busiest international route this month with 459,746 seats.
• Dubai (DXB) to Riyadh (RUH) has moved up into the top 10 busiest international routes in sixth place. This route has had the biggest increase in capacity this month compared to last month, adding 12% more seats per day.
• Bangkok (BKK) to Hong Kong (HKG) has had the largest decrease in capacity this month compared to last month with seats per day dropping by 17%.
• Jakarta (CGK) to Singapore Changi (SIN) has dropped out of the top 10.
  
  
• Seven of the routes in the Top 10 busiest international routes for May 2024 are from Asia Pacific region. With Dubai (DXB) to Riyadh (RUH) moving up into the top 10 two routes are now from the Middle East and one from Africa, Europe and North America. 

The busiest air routes are defined as those with the largest volume of scheduled airline seats in the current calendar month. Data is for flights in both directions on each route and is sourced from OAG Schedules Analyser in the first week of each month. The data reflects the most recent full calendar month for the busiest scheduled domestic and international aviation routes in each category.
