Our flight frequency counter shows the number of (one-way) flights in the schedule from Monday 30th December 2024* to the end of the current week.

With 18,614,160 flights in total to the end of this week, the average number of commercial flights per day is 102,275.

 

*The 'year' runs from Monday 30th December 2024 when week one of the schedule starts.

hOW MANY AIRLINES ARE THERE IN THE WORLD?

  • In July 2025 there are 706 airlines operating worldwide.
  • There are currently 3,891 airports in operation.

WHICH IS THE Biggest AIRLINE IN THE WORLD THIS MONTH?

  • United Airlines is leading the way, adding over 13,200 flights this month - a 9.3% increase from last July. 
  • The other US majors are recording strong frequency growth this month too, with American Airlines increasing by 4.6% this month and Delta Air Lines by 6.2% year on year. Other carriers adding frequency this month include the LATAM Airlines Group, with an increase of 6.7% and Turkish Airlines, increasing by 8.8%.  
  • Some airlines are reducing frequency however, with Southwest dropping by 1.5% compared to last July, and Deutsche Lufthansa down by 5.2% year on year.

 

DOMESTIC MARKETS | JULY 2025


 

WHERE IS MOST DOMESTIC CAPACITY THIS MONTH?

  • Turkiye leads in growth, up 8.7% from last July with nearly 500,000 more seats. Canada's domestic market is also experiencing strong growth, up 5.8% on last year.
  • Some of the largest domestic markets are holding steady or declining - India’s capacity is unchanged this month, while Japan is down 2.1%.
  • Indonesian domestic capacity has fallen by 6.8%, a decrease of nearly 0.65m seats year on year.

 

TOP TWENTY COUNTRY PAIRS FOR TRAVEL | JULY 2025


 

WHICH TWO COUNTRIES VISIT EACH OTHER MOST?

  • Spain - UK holds onto first place as the largest international country pair with 5.9m seats this month, an increase of 6.1% year on year, despite concerns of overtourism in parts of Spain. 
  • Fastest growing this month is China - Japan where capacity continues to increase year on year at an incredible rate - this month's capacity is almost 40% ahead of July 2024. Strong growth also continues between China and S Korea, up by 15.9%.
  • Meanwhile, China - Thailand, which was in the Top 20 Global Country Pairs last July in 17th place, has fallen down considerably to 32nd place as capacity drops significantly between the two countries.  
  • Some other markets seeing decline this month are Canada - USA, down 4.4%, and the UK - USA market by 1.5%.

 

AIRLINE CAPACITY BY REGION | JULY 2025


 

WHICH WORLD REGION HAS MOST FLIGHT CAPACITY?

  • Global capacity will reach 559.4m seats in July 2025, which is the peak month for capacity in the year.
  • Continuing the trend of recent months, capacity is up 3% compared to July 2024. Capacity is growing fastest in Central Asia this month, up 15% year on year, although this is one of the smallest global regions, with just 3.2m seats in July 2025.
  • The smallest region, Southern Africa, is also experiencing double-digit growth year on year, with capacity up by 10.4%.  
  • The largest volume increases this month come from the largest regions, with carriers in North East Asia adding 4.0m seats in July 2025 compared to 2024, and 3.3m seats in Western Europe.

All data is sourced from OAG Schedules and is for the current month and previous months stated per chart. Data is unadjusted for the leap year effect. 

The categories are defined below:

  1. The scheduled flight counter shows the number of flights in the schedule from the first day of the year up until the end of the current week.
  2. Weekly airline capacity shows total global (international + domestic) capacity, international capacity and domestic capacity, measure in seats. It is plotted weekly with a forward view of filed scheduled capacity for the 11 weeks ahead, showing the overall 3 months forward-looking position.
  3. Top 20 Airlines are the 20 largest global airlines by flights based on the current month.
  4. Top 20 Country Pairs are those international country pairs with most seat capacity based on the current month.
  5. Domestic Markets are the 10 largest markets by seats.
  6. Seats by Region is seat capacity for the current month to, from and within each global sub region.
