BUSIEST DOMESTIC AIRLINE ROUTES | MARCH 2024


KEY POINTS

  • Jeju (CJU) to Seoul (GMP) continues to be the busiest domestic route in the world in March 2024 at 1.2 million seats with seats per day decreasing by 6% compared to last month.
  • Hokkaido’s Chitose Airport (CTS) to Tokyo Haneda (HND) is the second busiest route with 969,832 seats and Fukuoka (FUK) to Tokyo Haneda (HND) is in third with 921,729 seats.
  • Seats per day for the route Hanoi (HAN) to Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) have decreased by 9% this month compared to last month, the biggest decrease in the top 10, moving this route down one place to fourth with 852,019 seats.
  • Two Chinese domestic routes have had the biggest increases in seats per day this month compared to last month; Beijing (PEK) to Shanghai Hongqiao (SHA) adding 46% more seats per day and Guangzhou (CAN) to Shanghai Hongqiao (SHA) adding 31% more. Both routes were not in the Top 10 busiest domestic routes last month and are in eighth and tenth place respectively this month.
  • Bogota (BOG) to Medellin (MDE) and Jakarta (CGK) to Denpasar (DPS) have both dropped out of the Top 10 this month.

CHINA'S TOP 10 BUSIEST DOMESTIC AIRLINE ROUTES | MARCH 2024


KEY POINTS

  • In March 2024, Beijing (PEK) to Shanghai Hongqiao (SHA) has moved back up to be the busiest domestic route in China at 684,732 seats with an increase in seats per day of 46% compared to last month.
  • Guangzhou (CAN) to Shanghai Hongqiao (SHA) has moved down a place to be the second busiest route this month at 668,015 seats with an increase in seats per day of 31%.
  • Shanghai Hongqiao (SHA) to Shenzhen (SZX) is in third place with 630,865 seats and seats per day have increased by 32% compared to last month.
  • All routes in the Top 10 Chinese domestic category have experienced increases in seats per day this month compared to last month, as the current near-term schedule in China is very fluid with changes at short notice in line with fluctuating demand, partly because of Chinese New Year in February 2024 which influenced schedules.
  • Hangzhou (HGH) to Shenzhen (SZX) has moved up into the top 10 to sixth place with seats per day increasing by 31% compared to last month.
  • Hangzhou (HGH) to Beijing (PEK) has also moved up into the top 10 in tenth place with 306,997 seats.

USA'S TOP 10 BUSIEST DOMESTIC AIRLINE ROUTES | MARCH 2024


KEY POINTS

  • Denver (DEN) to Phoenix (PHX) has moved up two places to be the busiest domestic route in the USA for March 2024 with 316,386 seats and seats per day have increased by 11% compared to last month, the biggest increase in the USA Top 10.
  • Atlanta (ATL) to Orlando (MCO) has moved down one place to be the second busiest domestic route in the USA with 311,118 seats.
  • Honolulu (HNL) to Kahului (OGG) has moved down one place to third with 384,787 seats and seats per day are similar to last month.
  • Las Vegas (LAX) to Los Angeles (LAX) is the only route in the Top 10 to have decreased seats per day this month compared to last month dropping 5% and moving down one place to sixth.
  • Los Angeles (LAX) to San Francisco (SFO) has moved up into the Top 10 busiest domestic routes in the USA in ninth place and Atlanta (ATL) to New York La Guardia (LGA) has dropped out.

BUSIEST INTERNATIONAL AIRLINE ROUTES | MARCH 2024


KEY POINTS

  • Hong Kong (HKG) to Taipei (TPE) continues to be the busiest international route in March 2024 with 586,454 seats, a 4% increase in seats per day compared to last month.
  • Cairo (CAI) to Jeddah (JED) is the second busiest international route with 524,607 seats and seats per day have grown by 14% this month compared to last month, the biggest increase in the international Top 10.
  • Seoul Incheon (ICN) to Tokyo Narita (NRT) is the third busiest international route with 457,946 seats.
  • New York (JFK) to London Heathrow (LHR) has moved back into the Top 10 busiest international routes in ninth place with 338,517 seats.
  • Dubai (DXB) to Riyadh (RUH) was in sixth place last month has dropped out of the Top 10 this month with seats per day decreasing by 24%. 
  • Eight of the routes in the Top 10 busiest international routes for March 2024 are from Asia Pacific region and one is from the Middle East, Africa, Europe and North America.

The busiest flight routes in the world are defined as those with the largest volume of scheduled airline seats in the current calendar month. Data is for flights in both directions on each route and is sourced from OAG Schedules Analyzer in the first week of each month. The flight data reflects the most recent full calendar month for the busiest scheduled domestic and international flight routes in each category.
