BUSIEST DOMESTIC AIRLINE ROUTES | APRIL 2024


KEY POINTS

  • Jeju (CJU) to Seoul (GMP) remains the busiest domestic route in the world in April 2024 at 1.2 million seats with seats per day increasing by 5% compared to last month, the biggest increase in seats per day in the top 10.
  • Hokkaido’s Chitose Airport (CTS) to Tokyo Haneda (HND) is the second busiest route with 941,504 seats and Fukuoka (FUK) to Tokyo Haneda (HND) is in third with 893,381 seats.
  • Melbourne (MEL) to Sydney (SYD) has seen the biggest drop in seats per day this month compared to last month decreasing by 5% but remains in fifth place.
  • Jeddah (JED) to Riyadh (RUH) and Guangzhou (CAN) to Shanghai Hongqiao (SHA) have also seen a drop in seats per day of 4%.

CHINA'S TOP 10 BUSIEST DOMESTIC AIRLINE ROUTES | APRIL 2024


KEY POINTS

  • In April 2024, Beijing (PEK) to Shanghai Hongqiao (SHA) continues to be the busiest domestic route in China with 670,915 seats.
  • Guangzhou (CAN) to Shanghai Hongqiao (SHA) is the second busiest route with 622,104 seats.
  • Shanghai Hongqiao (SHA) to Shenzhen (SZX) is in third place with 590,879 seats. 
  • All routes in the Chinese Top 10 domestic category are the same as last month with some changes in ranking:
    • Guangzhou (CAN) to Beijing (PEK) has had the biggest increase in seats per day this month compared to last month, adding 10% more, moving the route up 3 places to be the sixth busiest route.
    • Hangzhou (HGH) to Shenzhen (SZX) has dropped the most seats per day this month decreasing by 7% and moving this route down 3 places to ninth. 

USA'S TOP 10 BUSIEST DOMESTIC AIRLINE ROUTES | APRIL 2024


KEY POINTS

  • Atlanta (ATL) to Orlando (MCO) has moved back up a place to be the busiest domestic route in the USA for April 2024 with 303,643 seats, 5% more than Denver (DEN) to Phoenix (PHX) in second place with 289,725 seats.
  • Denver (DEN) to Phoenix (PHX) has seen the biggest decrease in seats per day this month, compared to last month dropping 5%.
  • Honolulu (HNL) to Kahului (OGG) continues in third place with 176,585 seats.
  • Los Angeles (LAX) to San Fransisco (SFO) has had the biggest increase in seats per day adding 13% more which has moved the route up one place to eighth.
  • New York La Guardia (LGA) to Chicago O’Hare (ORD) has also had a large increase in seats per day adding 11% which moves this route up a place to seventh.
  • Atlanta (ATL) to New York La Guardia (LGA) has moved up into the Top 10 busiest domestic routes in the USA in ninth place and Atlanta (ATL) to Tampa (TPA) has dropped out.

BUSIEST INTERNATIONAL AIRLINE ROUTES | APRIL 2024


KEY POINTS

  • Hong Kong (HKG) to Taipei (TPE) continues to be the busiest international route in April 2024 with 586,454 seats, however, this route has experienced the biggest drop in seats per day compared to last month decreasing by 6%.
  • Cairo (CAI) to Jeddah (JED) is the second busiest international route with 518,595 and Seoul Incheon (ICN) to Tokyo Narita (NRT) remains the third busiest with 456,208 seats.
  • Bangkok (BKK) to Hong Kong (HKG) has had the biggest increase in seats per day this month compared to last month adding 15% more and has moved up one place to sixth.
  • Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Singapore Changi (SIN) has also had a significant increase in seats per day this month adding 11% which has moved this route up a place to fourth with 445,220 seats.
  • Tokyo Narita (NRT) to Taipei (TPE) has moved up into the busiest international routes top 10 and Bangkok (BKK) to Seoul Incheon (ICN) has dropped out.
  • Eight of the routes for April 2024 are from Asia Pacific region and one is from the Middle East, Africa, Europe and North America.

The busiest flight routes in the world are defined as those with the largest volume of scheduled airline seats in the current calendar month. Data is for flights in both directions on each route and is sourced from OAG Schedules Analyzer in the first week of each month. The flight data reflects the most recent full calendar month for the busiest scheduled domestic and international flight routes in each category.
