OAG's 2023 on-time performance results reveal the:
- Top 20 Largest Global Airlines (by flights) ranked by OTP
- Top 20 Global Airlines (+30,000 flights) ranked by OTP
Data-driven and based on comprehensive full-year data (to 31st December 2023), the annual OTP results represent a round-up of the OAG OTP monthly reports which provide airports, airlines, passengers and the travel industry with transparent and independent on-time performance tracking.
The data highlights the continued efforts of airlines around the world to deliver outstanding on-time performance for their customers. Despite facing various resource challenges in 2023 and encountering regular meteorological obstacles in certain regions, the results are again a reflection of airlines of all sizes striving to operate to schedule every day of the year.

OTP 2023 AIRLINE RESULTS
- Amongst the largest airlines in the world, Delta Air Lines takes the top spot - ranking #1 - for on-time performance, followed by LATAM Airlines Group (#2 OTP 82.74%) and Azul Airlines (#3 OTP 82.39%).
- Whilst Latin American and US Majors dominate the top 10, Indigo, All Nippon and Japan Airlines demonstrate strong performances in Asia Pacific.
- Outside the top 10 large European carriers feature prominently with KLM-Royal Dutch Airlines leading the way.
- Within the global airlines (+30,000 flights) rankings Garuda Indonesia Airlines leads the way with an OTP of 95.28%. Airlines from all regions of the world made the top 20 listings and of varying network sizes, ranging from Safair in South Africa (operating 52k flights annually) through to Delta Air Lines (operating 1.6m flights annually).
UNDERSTANDING AIRLINE OTP DATA
Airline on-time performance (OTP) data shows the percentage of flights that have arrived on-time. On-time is within 15 minutes of the schedule.
The higher the percentage, the better the OTP score.
OTP is a crucial key performance indicator for airlines and airports, it helps to gauge their efficiency and also has the potential to set them apart from their competitors.

HOW IS AIRPORT OTP CALCULATED?
Airport on-time performance is based on actual gate departure times. Flights that depart within 15 minutes of the schedule are considered on-time. Departing 15 minutes or more after the scheduled time is considered not on-time.

Airline on-time performance is based on actual gate arrival times. Flights that arrive within 15 minutes of the schedule are considered on-time. Arriving 15 minutes or more after the scheduled time is considered not on-time.
WHY IS OTP IMPORTANT?
OTP is valuable for operations management; delays affect productivity and lead to increased costs. Flight punctuality is also of the highest importance to the traveler, poor punctuality will mean that flights arrive at their gate late or depart late – which could lead to passengers missing connecting flights.
