  • Southwest is making changes to its offering in an attempt to increase revenue. The most significant one, from January 2026, is the roll out of assigned seating.
  • Southwest remains the third largest airline in the world despite a decline in capacity of 0.9% in 2025.
  • The airline has differing shares of market capacity across its five largest bases, ranging from dominance at Chicago Midway (90.5%) through to Denver where the airline has 30% of the airport’s capacity and competes head-to-head with United Airlines.
