Infographic: Latin America's Most Connected Airports
Bogota (BOG) is the most connected airport in Latin America this year and is in 20th place globally having moved up nine places since last year's report was released. Per September 2024's data, it is also the busiest Latin American airport, based on capacity.
Mexico City (MEX), where Aeromexico takes a 58% share of flights, drops to second place on the list of Latin America's Megahub airports, but remains in the global top 50 in 32nd place, though it has moved down from 18th position in 2023. A new airport, Felipe Ángeles International (NLU) opened in Mexico City in Spring 2022. Mexico is the only country to feature more than once on this list, with two other airports achieving Top 10 Latin American Megahubs status: Cancun (CUN) and Guadalajara (GDL) in 8th and 9th places, respectively. Cancun is the only other airport in the Latin American top 10 to have fallen down the global rankings year on year, slipping from 61st to 82nd place.
LATAM Airlines is the biggest airline - based on capacity - in Latin America by a long way, and is the dominant carrier at 3/10 of the most connected airports: São Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport (GRU), with a 51% share, Lima Airport (LIM), with a 60% share and Santiago International Airport (SCL) with 58% share.
