Skift Travel Health Index: January 2024

The global Skift Travel Health Index now benchmarks year-on-year, since 2023 was a year of recovery for the industry. In January 2024, the Travel Health Index is 114, meaning global travel performance is 14 points higher than in January 2023.  Keep reading for insights from the Skift team in the Skift Travel Health Index: January 2024 Highlights.

Highlights from this month's Skift Travel Health Index include:

  • The Asia Pacific region is recovering well, with China at the forefront. Other countries like Hong Kong, Thailand, and Indonesia, which rely on Chinese travelers, have also improved.
  • Airlines are on a strong growth trajectory, gaining 24 percentage points (pp) over January 2023.
  • The car rental sector sees even stronger growth, with a YoY increase of 26 pp.
  • When it comes to vacation rentals, however, there is a noticeable softening trend.
