On-Time Performance: January 2026's Most Punctual Airlines

January's on-time performance (OTP) rankings have landed! The OTP data shows the percentage of flights that arrived on schedule.

Highlights from the latest OTP monthly data:

  • Weather-related disruption significantly affected airline operations in January, impacting both OTP and cancellation rates across many carriers.
  • No major airline achieved an on-time performance above 90% during the month.
    • China Southern Airlines achieved the highest OTP among the major airlines with 89.4% of flights arriving on-time.
    • Among North American airlines, Southwest was the most punctual in January with 79.75% of flights arriving on time, closely followed by Alaska Airlines at 79.31%.
  • Elevated cancellation rates were largely driven by weather and operational challenges:
    • In the U.S., Cape Air cancelled 10% of flights due to weather.
    • In Europe, KLM cancelled nearly 14% of flights due to a combination of weather and operational factors.

How is Airline OTP Calculated?

  • Airline on-time performance is based on actual gate arrival times. Flights that arrive within 15 minutes of the schedule are considered on time. Arriving 15 minutes or more after the scheduled time is considered not on time.
  • Cancellations are included in our data and are considered not on-time.
