⚡ Pricing power

Strong pricing continues across North Asia despite mixed capacity trends. Average fares increased on the majority of routes, with the strongest gains on Bangkok–Singapore (+39% outbound), Bangkok–Hong Kong (+24% outbound, +24% inbound) and Hong Kong–Taipei (+19% outbound, +23% inbound). This suggests robust demand keeping prices high even where capacity has been flat or declining.

⚠ Capacity vs fares

Airline capacity changes are not dictating airfare performance. Seat capacity changes ranged from +26% (Seoul–Tokyo Narita) to −12% (Kuala Lumpur–Singapore), yet fare changes show little direct correlation. For example, Bangkok–Hong Kong delivered double-digit fare growth despite a 7% reduction in capacity, while Seoul–Tokyo Narita added 26% more seats but outbound fares rose by only 2% and inbound fares fell 19%.

✓ Competition

Carrier numbers changed on only four of the ten routes. Despite additional carriers on routes such as Osaka–Seoul and Bangkok–Hong Kong, fares remained steady or increased, suggesting demand is absorbing the extra competition. Conversely, Bangkok–Singapore recorded the largest outbound fare increase (+39%) despite losing a carrier (5 to 4), highlighting the strength of this market.
