TOP 10 BUSIEST AIRLINES BY SEATS


Top 10 Airlines in the US by departing seats (one way) in March 2024.

  • This month, American Airlines remains the largest carrier in the US by seat volume, with 1.3m more seats than Southwest which remain in second place.
  • Allegiant Air reduced capacity by 310,000 seats this month, 16% fewer seats in real terms, despite this month being the start of the IATA Summer Season.

TOP 10 BUSIEST AIRLINE ROUTES BY SEATS


Top 10 Busiest Airline Routes in the US by departing seats in March 2024.

  • Atlanta - Orlando was the busiest US flight route this month, despite a 2% reduction in capacity in real terms.
  • Daily capacity reduced by 5% on the Denver - Phoenix route, moving it to the second busiest route.
  • The daily adjusted capacity on the Los Angeles - San Francisco route increased by 13%, 12% on Atlanta- NY La Guardia and 11% on the NY La Guardia - Chicago route.              

TOP 10 BUSIEST AIRPORTS 


Top 10 Airports in the US by departing seats (one-way) this month.

  • There are 659 airports with scheduled services operating this month.  The Top 10 airports continue to account for 34% of capacity.
  • Atlanta remains the biggest airport in capacity terms, by 1.1m seats.
  • In real terms capacity decreased in all of the top 10 airports, except Charlotte where it increased by 2%.

      

TOP 10 AIRLINES - APR 24 VS MAR 24


Top 10 Airlines by seats added month-on-month.

  • Growth this month came largely from European carriers who switched into their summer schedule, with Virgin Atlantic increasing capacity by 40,700 seats - a 23% increase in seats. Nevertheless, these airlines share of total capacity remains very small.
  • German-based carrier, Condor Flugdienst, increased capacity by over 200%, 24,000 more seats.

STATES ADDING & REMOVING MOST CAPACITY THIS MONTH VS LAST MONTH


  • Overall capacity in April 2024 decreased by 2%, 2.3m fewer seats (even with the move to the IATA summer season).  Although when the difference in the length of the month is accounted for capacity has increased by 1%; almost 33,000 more seats daily.
  • Capacity in Illinois increased most by 130,000 seats, representing a 6% increase when the shorter month is accounted for.
  • In terms of percentages, South Carolina experienced the highest capacity increase, with a daily growth rate of 22%.
  • Florida saw the most significant decrease in capacity, with 1.4 million fewer seats, resulting in an 8% reduction in daily seat availability.
