Which is the biggest airline in Africa?

  • Ethiopian Airlines is Africa’s largest carrier, operating 2.3m seats in November 2025 - an increase of 6.9% (151,000 more seats) compared to last year.
  • Within the Top 10, South African Airways grew at the fastest rate of 47.3% in the region, followed by Safair by 18.2% vs last year.
  • Capacity continued to decline for Kenya Airways by 12.8% vs last year.

Which is the Busiest Airport in Africa?

  • Cairo remains the largest airport in the continent with 1.6m seats in November 2025, an increase of 7.9% compared to last year.
  • Of those in the Top 10, Marrakech saw the fastest growth, with seats up 18.8% compared to November 2024. Casablanca, Cape Town, and Algiers also saw strong increases of 12.1%, 12%, and 11.8% respectively.
  • Capacity reduced again at Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta International by 0.6%.

How much airline capacity is there in Africa This Month?

  • Total capacity across Africa this month has increased by 8.6% vs November 2024 to 23.6m seats.
  • International capacity represents 77% of total capacity and is up by 8.9% vs November 2024. Domestic capacity increased by 7.6%.    
  • Mainline carriers make up 79% of the market, with capacity rising by 7.7% compared to November 2024. Low-cost carriers saw even stronger growth, increasing seats by 12.5% year-over-year to reach 4.9 million.

*As of July 2025, international capacity is reported on a two-way basis (previously one-way departing).

  • Egypt remains the largest country market in Africa with 2.9m seats in November 2025, an increase of 8.5% vs last year.
  • Cape Verde saw the highest capacity growth this month, up 19.6%, while Tanzania followed closely with an 18% increase.

Which African Country Has THE Most DOMESTIC Airline Capacity?

 

  • South Africa continues to be the largest domestic market in Africa with 1.7m seats this month, an increase of 14.2% vs last year.
  • Domestic capacity also increased in Algeria by 21.7% to 420,900 seats, and in Tanzania by 21.1% to 469,900 seats compared to November last year.
  • Domestic capacity continued to decline in Ethiopia by 4.4%, 21,300 fewer seats.

  • Capacity to Europe remains the largest international destination region, with 9.3m seats - 917,400 additional seats vs November 2024.
  • Capacity grew by 282,000 seats to the Middle East vs last year.

  • Capacity to/from North Africa is the largest market with 6.4m seats, growing by 552,100 seats vs last year.
  • Capacity grew to/from Southern Africa and Eastern Africa by 315,400 and 246,700 additional seats, respectively.
