Q2 2023 Release Notes - Flight Info Direct

Emissions

Overview

This release sees an improvement to the Emissions model factoring in new actual Fuel Burn data to improve the accuracy of Fuel Burn and CO2 in both the Schedules and Status Emissions views.

The first release for Schedules and Status Emissions views, for this release, was the 5th June Load (LOAD_DATE ='2022-11-07').

The Status Emissions history data was not updated in this release.

Schedules

UTC and Local Time Points

This update sees the introduction of UTC Date/Time data points as well more Local Date/Time points.

This update eliminates the need for clients to convert local times to UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). We have introduced new UTC fields that provide time data in the universally accepted standard, saving you time and effort in automated or manual conversions.

Important notes:

  • This will be added for current and future schedules only

  • Historical data is planned to be updated with future releases that will include more data points.

New data points:

  • SCHEDULED_DEPARTURE_DATE_UTC - The UTC Scheduled Departure Date in date format.
  • SCHEDULED_DEPARTURE_TIME_UTC - The UTC Scheduled Departure Time in varchar format hhmm.
  • SCHEDULED_DEPARTURE_DATE_TIME_LOCAL - The Local Scheduled Departure Date/Time in timestamp_NTZ format.
  • SCHEDULED_DEPARTURE_DATE_TIME_UTC - The UTC Scheduled Departure Date/Time in timestamp_NTZ format.
  • SCHEDULED_ARRIVAL_DATE_LOCAL - The Local Scheduled Arrival Date in date format.
  • SCHEDULED_ARRIVAL_DATE_UTC - The UTC Scheduled Arrival Date in date format.
  • SCHEDULED_ARRIVAL_TIME_UTC - The UTC Scheduled Arrival Time in varchar format hhmm.
  • SCHEDULED_ARRIVAL_DATE_TIME_LOCAL - The Local Scheduled Arrival Date/Time in timestamp_NTZ format.
  • SCHEDULED_ARRIVAL_DATE_TIME_UTC - The UTC Scheduled Arrival Date/Time in timestamp_NTZ format.

Data coverage

  • The first snapshot (file_date) that contains values for new fields is the 5th May 2023.

Status

GA/Unscheduled flight records

This update sees the introduction of GA and Unscheduled flight records into the Status Direct views. As part of this update, two new fields are available:

  • FLIGHT_TYPE which helps differentiate between “Scheduled”, “Unscheduled” and “GA” flights. Up until now all records have been “Scheduled” flights.

  • GENERAL_AVIATION_FLIGHT_IDENTIFIER which is the identifier for GA flights and is the aircraft registration/tail number as supplied by the FAA.

Additional Geographical Data Points

We have also added six new data points related to flight geography. They are:

  • DEPARTURE_FAA_AIRPORT_CODE - The three-to-five-character alphanumeric code assigned by the FAA to the departure port.

  • ARRIVAL_FAA_AIRPORT_CODE - The three-to-five-character alphanumeric code assigned by the FAA to the arrival port.

  • DIVERSION_FAA_AIRPORT_CODE - If a flight has been diverted this will show the three-to-five-character alphanumeric code, assigned by the FAA, of the actual arrival port.

  • DEPARTURE_COUNTRY_CODE - The departure country code as per the country code assigned by the ISO (International Standards Organisation) used by IATA.

  • ARRIVAL_COUNTRY_CODE - The arrival country code as per the country code assigned by the ISO (International Standards Organisation) used by IATA.

  • DIVERSION_COUNTRY_CODE - The arrival country code, of a diverted flight, as per the country code assigned by the ISO (International Standards Organisation) used by IATA.

Data coverage

  • The first records for GA and Unscheduled flights appear on SCHEDULED_DEPARTURE_DATE_LOCAL values of 2023-01-11.

  • All other additional data points are populated back to November 2021.

Refresh Log

The refresh log allows you to see when an update to each dataset has been made rather than having to query the data set itself. This can save processing time and improve efficiencies in your downstream data pipeline. This view is free and can be requested by contacting our support team here.
