BA is nation's fifth favourite brand
July 21, 2008
The airline received the high ranking from the Superbrands Council, which named Google as the top brand in
It was a rare piece of good news for BA, which said last week it will shortly make capacity cuts of between 3% and 5% across its network, mainly by reducing frequencies.
The next highest travel company was Hilton, placed 20th, followed in the top 100 by Eurostar (47), Virgin Atlantic (70) and Thomas Cook (72).
Thomas Cook was the only operator named in the top 100. Executive director marketing Simon Carter said it was far ahead of its rivals in the survey, which he claimed was because Cook was seen as a consumer champion through initiatives like its campaign for an extra bank holiday.
“For the past three years, we have been steadily moving up the rankings and are now at our highest ever position in the Top 100. Best of all is the huge and ever widening gap between ourselves and the next tour operator in the list. In the whole Superbrands survey, no other first place brand beats it second place competitor by that number of positions, showing how head and shoulders our brand is above our competitors.”
The only other tour operator ranked in the top 500 was Kuoni, which was placed 340th.
It was the first time Google had topped the list, and it knocked technology rival Microsoft off the number one spot.
Microsoft was placed second, followed by Mercedes-Benz and the BBC
