AirAsia to fly to India

October 28, 2008

Malaysia-based low-cost carrier AirAsia has received approval from the Indian government to launch flights to the sub-continent.

AirAsia chief executive Tony Fernandes said the first flight to Tiruchi in Tamil Nadu would take off on December 1.

“It will be a daily flight and we are looking at even adding a second flight now as the initial response has been tremendous,” he said.

Special promotional prices for the flight will cost RM49 one-way while the normal ticket price will cost about RM200 one-way.

Fernandes said there are plans to fly to more destinations in India including Madras, Madurai and Kochi.

“AirAsiaX meanwhile will fly to places like New Delhi, Bombay, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Calcutta,” he added.
