Advanced Passenger Information UK Requirements From 2009

Advance Passenger Information means providing certain information to the authorities before you travel, such as your passport details and, where necessary, your contact information. Please check with your airline how API is collected.
Currently Advance Passenger Information is required for travel to and from the following countries before your flight:
Bermuda
Canada
Caribbean
China
India
Japan
Kenya
Mexico
Spain
South Africa
Thailand
United Arab Emirates
UK
USA
Additionally, from 4 March 2009, you will need to provide Advance Passenger Information when travelling to and from:
Malta
Turkey
This information is compulsory and is required for the purposes of ensuring aviation safety and security.
Below is a list of the information required:
Full given names
Surname
Gender
Nationality
Date of birth
Travel document number e.g. passport number
Travel document expiry date
Travel document country of issue
In order to minimise unnecessary delays at the airport, it is essential that all travellers provide the API where possible, prior to travelling to the airport:
At the Airport
Staff at check-in kiosks will be able to collect API data but customers are strongly advised to supply the information prior to arrival at the airport or at a check-in kiosk where available, providing customers hold a machine readable passport.
