Business travellers cautioned over swine flu outbreak

April 28, 2009

Travel Management Company FCm Travel Solutions has issued an alert over the swine flu outbreak in Mexico to business travel clients.

The company is advising corporations to activate pandemic plans as appropriate and consider deferring non-essential travel to Mexico, especially to Mexico City and surrounding states.

FCm is also recommending clients reconsider non-essential travel to areas where disease surveillance may be poor and good healthcare difficult to obtain.

Corporate travellers should also anticipate business closures and possible travel restrictions.

Business manager-security Calum McDougall said: "We have also carried out an internal traveller tracking process to see if we have any clients in Mexico or booked to travel there so that we can re-book them if necessary.

"We may find that some FCm clients issue a directive/embargo on travel (or no travel to certain zones), however at the time of this email we have not heard of any such policies.

“We will be reporting on travel to/from Mexico City and advising against travel to Mexico.

“If the risks escalate during the coming days we will advise our clients accordingly.”
