| Business/Social Hints: | Women should wear modest clothes. A headscarf is recommended. Business is conducted in French and Arabic, only very few people ie traders and hoteliers, speak English. Care should be taken to respect local conventions. Muslim customs do not encourage drinking. Using the right and not the left hand when passing or receiving food or gifts. Not showing soles of the feet when seated. Segregation of women sometimes occurs but only on certain occasions like festivals. Visits during Ramadan should be avoided. On social occasions dress as for business meetings unless otherwise indicated |
