Inforwarding.com Launched in Singapore

27  July  2005

A one-stop communication portal for the air cargo industry in Singapore where airlines post messages online for forwarders to pick up instantaneously.

OAG Worldwide Ltd, a global content management company specialising in travel and transport, launched Inforwarding.com in Singapore yesterday, with aggressive expansion plans into Hong Kong, Australia, Japan, China, Korea and Taiwan over the next two years.

It was introduced with a reception in Singapore’s Le Meridien Changi Hotel where more than one hundred cargo agents, forwarders and airline personnel were given a first-hand insight into the communication portal which went live today.

Fred Seow, OAG’s Vice President for Asia Pacific, comments on the launch said, “We are very excited to be part of this dynamic cargo industry with predicted spectacular growth of between 6 to 8% year on year as the region continues to be more integrated into global trade with the deregulation and liberalisation of the air transport industry. We are confident that Asia Pacific will grow the quickest with strong demand and continuous development of traffic from Asia, and the launch of Inforwarding.com can and will be part of that value-creation to the industry.”

OAG acquired Inforwarding B.V., a Netherlands based internet company providing marketing exchange and rates services to the airline cargo and freight forwarder community, providing local market-based internet services which enable airlines cargo teams to communicate efficiently with their freight forwarding customers to promote new routes, offers and other marketing promotion. In addition, it provides real time cargo rates data to subscribing forwarders.

Les Higgins, OAG’s Chief Executive Officer, explaining the rationale for the acquisition said, “The acquisition of Inforwarding is a further step in the transformation of OAG from its traditional role as an English language print publisher to its new role as a multi-channel, multilingual content management and distribution company in the travel and transport sector”.

Inforwarding was started in 2001 by Dirk de Rooij and Bart Jan Haasbeek and building on their extensive cargo experience, they have created a fast growing company with considerable growth potential. Dirk and Bart Jan will be working with OAG to lead the next phase of growth.

Commenting on Inforwarding.com’s foray into Asia, Dirk said, “Over the past four years, Inforwarding has been an essential link in the decision making process within the air cargo chain by providing a conduit for airlines to transmit their operational news and selling rates. From our humble presence in several Western European markets to our current status as part of OAG’s global umbrella, Inforwarding has grown to serve more than 10,000 registered users who now receive messages from hundreds of local airline offices. Despite our growth rate and global reach, the success of Inforwarding is still beholden to one thing above all else -- our close, collaborative relationship with the airlines and forwarders that we serve. We understand that much of the value we bring to our members is dependant upon the parties viewing Inforwarding as a reliable and credible source of operational and rate information.”

OAG’s existing cargo offerings include schedules data supply, printed guides, cargo internet schedules and cargo routing tools for airlines and freight forwarders.  OAG is planning the launch of further on-line services over the next quarter.
