OAG Launches Flight Status Initiative

12  November  2002

Real-time communication of flight information changes set to reduce costs and improve efficiency and customer service

(November 12, 2002)  OAG, the leading source of flight schedule information, today launched OAG Flight Status. The system will allow airlines to communicate changes in flight information, in real-time, to the entire airline industry and its customers via a single source.

OAG Flight Status will help airlines to cuts costs by enabling them to manage support services more effectively and to offer their customers an even better level of service by notifying them of changes at the earliest possible opportunity. Airlines will be able to maintain more direct control of their data by communicating changes through a single source rather than going through several processes.

Even slight deviations in a flight schedule or operating details causes a chain reaction affecting support services such as catering, maintenance and ground staff as well as causing inconvenience to passengers. OAG Flight Status will work directly with airlines to ensure the efficient and effective communication of flight information changes: gathering data from airlines in a variety of formats and creating a high-quality standard data source that can be used with confidence. OAG will receive data on flight status changes directly from airlines. Or, if requested by an individual airline, use its application to interrogate their system.

OAG commented: "This new service from OAG was developed as a direct response to the airline industry's need for up-to-the-moment flight and airport changes. Our experience and knowledge in airline data management and unique position at the heart of the airline industry will enable us to help airlines strengthen relationships with their customers. Flight Status will not only improve the service we offer airlines but will benefit the business travel industry as a whole."
