West United States

Sure, any airport will sell you airline tickets and check luggage to your destination. But at Burbank’s Bob Hope Airport now you can purchase tickets for Las Vegas shows, book hotel rooms there, make dining reservations, even request tee times. No, the airport doesn’t provide these services, but a concessionaire called Concierges will. Located at Gate A4, Terminal A, the service booth is staffed from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily…You may not think of Fresno-Yosemite International as a major point of arrival for visitors from abroad, but the Department of Homeland Security does to the extent that it instituted biometric screening there in mid-August. The entry procedure involves taking a digital, inkless fingerprint scan and a digital photo of most arriving international pax.

Midwest United States

Now that passenger traffic is on the rebound, Chicago O’Hare has reopened Economy Parking Lot F. A note: If you’re going to use F, you’ll have to board the shuttle bus to Economy Lot E—from whence you can hop the Airport Transit System (ATS) to ORD’s terminals. The daily rate in Economy F is $9.00.

Southwest United States

You only wish all airports were so perceptive, especially now when everybody’s gone shoeless at security. Phoenix Sky Harbor International offers Sky Slippers to passengers at the security checkpoint…Don’t want to endlessly circle the terminal roadways at Albuquerque International Sunport waiting to pick up a colleague or that significant other? Don’t want to be spending money to park in a regular lot and mill around in front of security, endlessly waiting? ABQ has opened up a free cell phone waiting lot. Look for the signs…Oklahoma City’s Will Rogers World Airport is completely wireless now. You can link up with wireless high-speed Internet anywhere in the terminal complex. Unlike some airports which offer the service free, at OKC you’re going to have to pay: $6.95 per day…Hawaiian Airlines has moved from Terminal 4 at Phoenix over to Terminal 3. The carrier fields nonstop Honolulu service from Gate 5 on the South Concourse.

Northeast United States

Flying Lufthansa from Philadelphia to Frankfurt? You’ll be checking in from a different terminal now. Used to be, flyers checked in at Terminal A-East. Now, it’s A-West. The move makes it easier to go from check-in to gate. While check-in was in A-East, the gate was located over on A-West. You get the picture. The switch also puts Lufthansa near its prime Star Alliance partner at the airport, US Airways. This strategy streamlines Philadelphia’s international operations. Earlier this year, Air France also moved from Terminal E to A-West.

Worldwide

As this report got set to go live, Beirut International Airport was once again open to commercial traffic. Appropriately, Middle East Airlines, the flag carrier of the embattled nation of Lebanon, operated the first flight into the ravaged aerodrome. During the height of the recent crisis, MEA moved operations to Damascus…More news of airports in dangerous places. Air & Business Travel News, reports that Mogadishu Airport is open again, after being idle for more than a decade. This isn’t the type of place you want to vacation. The Somali capital is under the control of the radical Union of Islamic Courts. Still, Jubba Airlines now offers flights from what U.S. soldiers once called “The Moge” to Dubai and Jeddah.
