Southwest Airlines is now operating the previously announced daily nonstop between Oakland International Airport and Baltimore/Washington International. It has also added a second daily nonstop to Boise, Idaho from OAK. The OAK-BWI run departs at 7:40 a.m. and arrives at 3:55 p.m. The added OAK-BOI run departs at 7:45 a.m. and arrives at 8:10 a.m…Come October 29, Alaska Airlines will begin a new daily nonstop between San Diego International and San Francisco International. The route will get four daily roundtrips on weekdays and a “reduced” schedule on weekends, AS says. Northbound departures from SAN weekdays will be at 8 a.m., 10:04 a.m., 5:48 p.m. and 8:20 p.m. Southbound departures from SFO will be at 7:50 a.m., 3:43 p.m., 6:15 p.m. and 7:58 p.m.
With summer winding down, American Airlines is ending a number of its seasonal nonstop routes. These are between Anchorage International and Chicago O’Hare International that wrapped on September 5; ORD-Jackson Hole, Wyoming on September 2; Kahului, Maui-ORD on September 5; Palm Springs Airport-ORD September 6; ANK-Dallas Fort Worth International September 30; Eagle/Vail, CO-DFW August 30 and Jackson Hole-DFW September 30. On the plus side, AA will start a new run between Los Angeles International and Las Vegas McCarran International on October 29...Looking ahead: For Alaskans wanting a Hawaii getaway this winter, Northwest Airlines starting February 18, 2007, will operate a twice weekly run between Anchorage and Kona. Return flights from Kona will operate via Honolulu. Service will operate Wednesdays and Sundays until April 8.

With this country increasingly reliant on the United States military, the military is growing reliant on commercial air transport. To that end, Delta Connection launches twice-daily nonstop service from Atlanta to Jacksonville, North Carolina December 11. OAJ (that’s the airport code in Jacksonville) is home to the United States Marine Corps Base at Camp Lejeune. Currently, the only carrier flying into OAJ is US Airways Express. It offers frequent flights to US Airways’ Charlotte hub…A new way to fly from Birmingham to the Beltway. September 6 United Express was set to begin daily BHM-Washington Dulles service. A CRJ-200 makes the run one time per day…Delta Connection is laying on more flights to the Florida Keys—and we’re not talking Key West. November 16 the carrier begins Bombardier regional jet service from its Atlanta megahub to Marathon. This is a once-daily deal…Fort Myers is one of those highly seasonal destinations in the airline industry. Consider: November 1 Midwest Airlines starts flying to Southwest Florida Regional Airport (RSW) from Kansas City. Service runs through April 30, 2007. AirTran resumes nonstop Fort Myers-Akron-Canton service December 21. One daily roundtrip is on the books. More Fort Myers forays, this time from Flint.
