Class of Travel - Check in and Arrival

Business travelers are very valuable to airlines and much research has been done to find out about the service expected. Below are some of the services offered to Business and First Class Travelers. Not all airlines and airports will offer all of them.

  • Limousine car between office and airport.
  • Express or Valet parking if arriving at airport in own car.
  • Telephone check-in service.
  • Later times for check-in (30 mins before flight rather than 60 plus mins)
  • Dedicated check-in desks with no queues.
  • Speedy immigration and security at both departure and arrival airports.
  • Baggage loaded onto the aircraft last and unloaded first for a quick getaway at arrival airport.

For business travelers spending a short time at the airport, there are exclusive lounges where they can relax in a quiet atmosphere. These lounges offer drinks, snacks and business facilities, from faxes to modem connections.

Some airlines also provide an 'Arrivals Lounge', which are very popular with business travelers who have been flying overnight. The arrivals lounge offers them a place to shower and shave while their suit is sponged or pressed. Business facilities and a light breakfast are provided, as well as televisions and newspapers so they can check on what is happening on the world markets.

You should now have some idea of the different experiences that Mr. Guilford and Mr. Hideyoshi will be having on flight JL 402. Is it worth the difference in price? Most companies think that the extra 40-50% that First Class costs compared to Business Class is not worth the difference. But most companies think that on long haul (over 4 hours) and overnight flights the extra comfort and space of Business Class can be justified for their employees.

This is not always the case on short haul trips (under 4 hours). Here the difference in seat sizes is often very small. If there is no need for the business traveler to enjoy the comfort of Business Class it is possible that the company will insist that the traveler sits in the Economy cabin. This gives the company the opportunity of looking for even cheaper return fares.
