Health - and keeping healthy - is very important for business travelers. Compulsory Vaccinations ensure that a traveler entering a particular country must have been vaccinated against a particular epidemic disease, usually Yellow Fever. At least 10 days before departure, the traveler has to have an injection, which is recorded in an International Certificate of Vaccination. This small booklet must be presented with the passport on entering the countries that require compulsory vaccination. A Yellow Fever vaccination lasts for 10 years. Although you can visit a country where yellow fever is endemic (i.e. can be caught) without having had a vaccination, this could prevent you from traveling on to another country that requires the certificate. So a visit to Angola without having had a vaccination will mean that you would have to show an International Certificate of Vaccination to enter Nigeria, as Nigeria requires a vaccination certificate for entry. Recommended Immunizations are advisable preventative measures. Injections, tablets and other precautions are suggested before or during travel to limit the chances of catching diseases. OAG Travel Planner can be used as an indicator of health issues relating to each country. However if a business traveler is going to a third world or tropical country, they should seek up-to-the-minute medical information from a travel clinic. All good travel clinics are linked to international medical organizations with details of the health risks and diseases in each region.
