Like father, like son...or how to combine business with pleasure

June  2007

In addition to world-class business facilities, Gleneagles offers the ultimate family getaway. Set in its own 850-acre estate and surrounded by breathtaking Perthshire scenery, it is just one hour's drive from both Glasgow and Edinburgh.

One of Scotland’s top hotels is offering a special family rate exclusively to those attending business events to encourage them to stay on for an extra day or two.

With the season for corporate golf days under way, delegates at Gleneagles can take advantage of the special rates to extend their stay with the family.

Fathers and sons can enjoy a bonding session on the fairways, and with a junior golf lesson included in the package price, children can become expert golfers, even teaching Dad a few tips. During the session with a Gleneagles pro, the youngsters will be filmed to assess style, receive their own club (cut to suit height and swing) and a photograph of them in action, perfect for budding Tiger Woods.

Delegates attending events at Gleneagles until the end of October can extend their stay to include the family from the special rate of £530 (€787/ US$1,060) per room per night. This is based on two adults and one child sharing a Sovereign room, with full Scottish breakfast, use of the club facilities, a 30-minute junior golf lesson for the child and VAT at 17.5% for the party included in the price.

Set in its own 850-acre estate and surrounded by breathtaking Perthshire scenery, the 266-bedroom resort is just one hour's drive from both Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Extended stay benefits
Another highly rated Scottish property – The Edinburgh Residence in the heart of the capital – is also offering reduced corporate long stay rates for business travellers who extend their visit into the weekend.

Just minutes from Princes Street and Edinburgh’s financial district, the 5-star Georgian-style hotel has 29 elegantly appointed townhouse apartments. The ultimate home from home, they are 90m2 in area (equivalent to a tennis court) and house extravagantly proportioned bathrooms with traditional standalone baths, original fireplaces,
period ceilings, and outstanding views across the city. They provide the luxury of private accommodation with full hotel services and independent facilities, including an armoir containing a microwave, mini-fridge and cooking preparation area. Guests can take advantage of delicious in-room dining prepared by the resident chef Denis Shankland. Served in the private dining areas within the townhouse suites, this is available for parties of up to eight.

Corporate Long Stay rates at The Edinburgh Residence start from £99 (€147/US$198) per room per night in a Classic suite, based on sole occupancy and a minimum 4-night stay, including full Scottish breakfast and VAT.

Rewards for bookers

Jurys Inn is rewarding corporate travel bookers with shopping vouchers worth £50 (€74) for every 10 bookings or £750-worth (€1,114) of conference business placed with the hotel group. The vouchers can be used in House of Fraser, Thomas Cook, Homebase and Waterstones outlets.

British Airways Executive Club members will receive double BA Miles on all Alamo car rentals booked online at www.alamocarba.com. In addition, each reserved and completed rental before the end of July will be entered into a prize draw that will see 10 Executive Club members win 100,000 BA Miles each

The Wyndham Hotel Group is extending its TripRewards loyalty programme to the UK and Ireland. Participating Ramada and Days Inn hotels now offer 10 points for the equivalent of every US dollar spent, plus free room upgrades, and early check-in and late check-out, based on availability.
Members also receive a complimentary snack and beverage on arrival.

Air One, the privately owned Italian airline, is currently offering one-way fares from London City airport to Rome from £50 (€74), including taxes. There are also flights to Milan from £55 (€82). The carrier, which has services to seven European cities, has a domestic network of 23 destinations. By the end of the year, it will have an expanded
fleet of 56 aircraft.

Etihad Airways and Millennium and Copthorne Hotels have established a new partnership which enables members of the airline’s frequent flyer programme to earn miles when staying at any of the group’s 67 properties.
