July round-up of new routes, start-ups, mergers and failures

June  2006

New Manx carrier Manx2 launches its first two routes this month (July 15) from the Isle of Man to Blackpool and
Belfast International, plus a service between Blackpool and Belfast. Leeds Bradford is to be added on August 12.
The start-up carrier, based at Ronaldsway airport, is offering a quarter of the seats on each flight at £39 (€57) each way, inclusive of taxes and charges. A flexible Manx Gold ticket, aimed at business travellers, allows changes to schedules and passenger details up to two hours prior to departure as well as lounge access at Belfast International airport.

News in brief...

the process" with the filing of objections which were lengthening the approval process.

FlyBe launches its first services to Germany in the autumn, with the introduction at the end of October of a twice-daily link between Southampton and Dusseldorf and a daily flight to Hanover. Fares on both routes will be from £29.99 (€44) one way, including taxes and charges.

Royal Jordanian Airlines has introduced a twice-weekly service to Sulaymaniah, in northern Iraq, adding to its 16 weekly flights to Baghdad, three to Basra and four to Irbil.

Virgin Nigeria has added a three-times-a-week service between Lagos and Dubai, its 12th destination in its first year of operation.

Malév Hungarian Airlines, which is due to join the Oneworld alliance early next year, has signed an agreement with British Airways that will enable the two carriers to begin code-sharing flights from  November 1.

Air France launches a three-times-a-week service between Paris and Madras on October 30. At the same time, it is stepping up the flight frequency on the Bangalore route to daily.

Aer Lingus is to pull out of the Oneworld alliance, probably early next year, following its realignment as a low-cost, point-to-point carrier.
