OAG Announces Shortlist for Airline of the Year Awards 2003 (US media)

For immediate release: February 3, 2003

OAG, the world’s leading source of flight schedule information, today announced the shortlist for its 21st annual Airline of the Year Awards.

A total of 52 airlines and airports have received nominations in 19 regional and global categories ranging from Best Low Cost Carrier to Best International First Class. Leading the field is Continental Airlines with nominations in nine categories, followed closely by British Airways with eight nominations and Air Canada and Singapore Airlines tied with seven nominations each. American Airlines joins these four airlines on the shortlist for the prestigious title of “Airline of the Year 2003.”

The winners will be announced at the Awards ceremony on Thursday, April 10 at the Park Lane Hilton, London.  The event will celebrate the very best in global air travel and publicly recognize the highest standards within the industry.

Bill Andres, Senior Vice President, OAG Americas commented: “The airlines have continued to operate and develop new innovations for their customers in spite of a turbulent year. OAG is delighted to take this opportunity once a year to take stock and celebrate their achievements.”

Despite a challenging year for U.S. carrier United Airlines, the Chicago-based airline makes the shortlist for no fewer than four awards including Best International First Class, Best Trans-Atlantic, Best Trans-Pacific and will battle American Airlines, Air Canada, Continental and Midwest Express for the Best in North America.

U.S. low cost carriers JetBlue and Southwest airlines vie for superiority with UK-based easyJet, Go and Australian-based Virgin Blue in the competitive Low-Cost Carrier category.

The full shortlist is available here.
