Identify the volume of flights from the United States of America to the EU27 Member States.
For this month’s tip we will create a report with a topical feel, given the recent events concerning the Open Skies Agreement between the United States of America and the European Union.
Example: Design a report that displays a ranking by frequency for flights departing from the US to countries within the European Union.
On the homepage of MAX Online, click ‘Run a New Query’.
Start setting up your report by selecting the following yellow filters;
Departure Country Code(s)
DEPARTURE FROM folder
Arrival Country Name(s)
ARRIVAL TO folder
Operating Flights Only
CODE SHARE folder
Passenger (excluding surface)
SERVICE folder
Year & Month Number(s)
PERIOD folder
Non-Stop Flights only
ROUTING folder
Exclude All Traffic Restrictions
RESTRICTIONS folder
Now select the following fields as Results Objects.
Your screen should look like the image below (click on the chart to view a larger image)
Click on ‘Run Query’and select ‘UNITED STATES OF AMERICA’ as the Departure Country Name. For the Arrival Country Name we will enter each of the 27 EU countries*. We will then select ‘200705’ as the Year & Month Number.
*The 27 countries of the European Union are listed at the end of the Tip.
By clicking into the data contained in the Frequency column and selecting the ‘Descending’ option from the ‘Apply/Remove Sort’ sub-menu we can create a ranking report by monthly frequency for the flights departing out of the United States of America arriving in the 27 countries of the European Union.
To determine the total number of flights between the United States and EU27, click once again in the Frequency column and then opt for Sum from the ‘Insert Sum’ sub-menu. The total value will be displayed in the bottom row of the report.
By customising the format of the report you can create a look and feel similar to that of the screenshot below. (click on the chart to view a larger image)
