Compare the Star Alliance members in terms of number of flights.

Start setting up your query using the yellow query filters:

Alliance(s) 

 AIRLINE folder
Passenger (excluding surface)  SERVICE folder
Operating Flights Only   CODE SHARE Folder
Week Commencing Date(s)  PERIOD folder
Non-Stop Flights only ROUTING folder

Now select the following fields as Results Objects.

Carrier Airline Code 

AIRLINE folder
Carrier Airline Name AIRLINE folder
Frequency    FREQUENCY & CAPACITY folder

Your screen should look like the image below (click on the chart to view a larger image)

Click on Run Query and select ‘STAR ALLIANCE’ as your ‘Alliance(s)’ option.  Then select the week that you wish to conduct the analysis, for example, 2006-10-02.

Now click OK to run the report.

The report displays the number of flights by carrier (code and name) within the Star Alliance group for the week commencing 02 October 2006.

Following the steps below we will rank the airlines based on the number of their weekly available flights.

Step 1 Highlight the Frequency column by clicking into it.

Step 2 – Rank the data in descending order using the ‘Apply/Remove Sort’ button in the report toolbar.

The results will now show the busiest Star Alliance members which for the week commencing 02 October 2006 are United Airlines, followed by US Airways and Lufthansa.

Now upon customisation your report could potentially have the following format.

Reminder:  If you wish to modify the look and feel of the table just right click within the column that you would like to change and select ‘Edit Format’.  This will take you to the Cell Format sub option where you will be given the opportunity to apply your preferred settings in terms of font size and colour as well as cell background.
