Compare the total number of seats available to & from four airports.

Example: For this report we are going to identify the total number of seats available on all flights arriving & departing Amsterdam, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, and Rotterdam airports for the months of September, October and November 2006.

Start setting up your query using the yellow query filters:

T/F Airport Name                                          

TO/FROM folder

Passenger Flights (excluding surface)

SERVICE folder

Operating Flights Only                                

CODESHARE folder

Year & Month Number                                 

PERIOD folder

Non-Stop Flights Only                                  

ROUTING folder

Now select the following fields as Results Objects.

To/From Airport Name

TO/FROM folder

Year & Month Number

PERIOD folder

Total Number of Seats

FREQUENCY & CAPACITY Folder

Your screen should look like the image below (click on the chart to view larger image):

Click on Run Query and select “AMSTERDAM” , “DUSSELDORF INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT”, “FRANKFURT INTERNATIONAL APT” and “ROTTERDAM APT” (in UPPER case) as the “T/F Airport Name” and ‘200609’ , ‘200610’ and ‘200611’ as the ‘Year & Month Number’.

Now Click OK to run the report. 

The results show the total number of seats by airport and month.

Using the following steps we will create a table that will enable us to easily compare the total number of seats each of the above four airports offers in the months we have selected.

Step 1 – Click into the data contained within the ‘Year & Month Number’ column.

Step 2 – Drag this column to the top of the table so that the long blue rectangle appears indicating that the cross tab will be created as shown below. (click on the chart to view larger image)

Click on the ‘ICAO Analysis’ link on the home page of OAG MAX. This will open up the ‘ICAO Analysis’ query tool.

Start setting up your query using the following ‘Query Filters’ (yellow icons) that can be found in the ‘Airport Traffic folder’.

Airport Name
Year

Now select the following fields as Results Objects (blue cubes/purple spheres) from the ‘Airport Traffic folder’.

Airport Name
Period
Total Number of Passengers

Click on Run Query and select “AMSTERDAM - SCHIPOL” , “DUSSELDORF”, “FRANKFURT INTL”, “ROTTERDAM” (in UPPER case) as the “Airport Name” and ‘2005’ as the ‘Year’.

Now Click OK to run the report.  MAX Online will display the monthly passenger traffic for these four airports as shown in the screenshot below (click on the chart to view larger image):

We are now going to modify the table to allows us to compare the total number of passengers of each of the four airports.

Step 1 – Click in the ‘Period’ field to highlight the column.

Step 2 – Drag the ‘Period’ column to the top of the table.  A long blue rectangle will appear to indicate that the cross-tab will be applied.  Please refer to the image below (click on the chart to view larger image):

Step 3 – Release the mouse button and the table will now display the month names as the columns and the airport names as the rows.

Step 4 – Use the quick filter  in the toolbar and select “Month 09 September 2005”, “Month 10 October 2005 and “Month 11 November 2005by holding the ‘Ctrl’ or ‘Shift’ keys whilst clicking on each value.

The final table will be displayed as below showing the total number of passengers for the months of September, October and November 2005.

The new data set as produced using the ICAO data, allows you to compare actual historic information re: total number of passengers, with planned capacity for the same period in 2006 using the OAG data.

* For those customers who have already upgraded their account to include access to ‘ICAO Analysis’.
