TIP OF THE MONTH
 

TIP OF THE MONTH: Calculate a low cost carrier’s monthly capacity deployment on a country to country basis.

Example:  For this month’s tip we will build a report that provides a country to country breakdown of Myair’s available capacity during January 2008.

On the homepage of MAX Online, click ‘Run a New Query'. Start setting up your query using the yellow query filters:

Carrier Airline Code(s)  AIRLINE folder
Passenger (excluding surface) SERVICE folder
Operating Flights Only CODE SHARE folder
Year & Month Number(s) PERIOD folder
Non-Stop Flights only

ROUTING folder

Now select the following fields as Results Objects.

Departure Country Name

DEPARTURE FROM folder

Arrival Country Name

ARRIVAL TO folder

Total Number of Seats FREQUENCY & CAPACITY folder


Your screen should look like the image below:

Click on “Run Query”.  Enter ‘8I’ for Myair when prompted as the ‘Carrier Airline Code’. Double click on ‘200801’ for the ‘Year & Month Number’ and then click ‘OK’.

MAX Online displays the January seat offering for Myair, country to country.  (click on the screenshot below to view the enlarged image)

By clicking into the ‘Departure Country Name’ column and using the ‘Insert/Remove Break’ function situated in the Report Toolbar, we can identify the markets available out of each country and the total number of seats offered.

Below is how the screen will be displayed once you have grouped the data.  (click on the screenshot below to view the enlarged image)

Preliminary Report

To calculate the total number of seats offered out of each country click into the data contained within the ‘Total Number of Seats’ column and then select ‘Sum’ from the ‘Insert Sum’ sub menu:

An extra row displaying the ‘total number of seats’ out of each country will be inserted at the foot of each table.

The countries can be ranked according to the total number of seats offered by clicking into the Total Number of Seats column and selecting ‘Descending’ from the ‘Apply/Remove’ Sort button that can be found in the Report Toolbar.

In order to display the origin country in each line click into the data contained within the ‘Departure Country Name’ column and then click into the ‘Properties tab’ in the left hand side window, followed by the ‘Break Properties’ tab in the furthermost left column of the window. Then uncheck the ‘Remove Duplicates’ box.
