TIP OF THE MONTH:

Identify the top airlines in terms of monthly volume of flights departing from a specific country.

On the homepage of MAX Online, click ‘Run a New Query’.
Start setting up your report by selecting the following yellow filters;

Departure IATA Country Code(s)

DEPARTURE FROM folder
Passenger (excluding surface)          SERVICE folder
Operating Flights Only  CODE SHARE folder
Year & Month Number(s)  PERIOD folder
Non-Stop Flights only  ROUTING folder

Now select the following fields as Results Objects.

Carrier Airline Name

 AIRLINE folder
Frequency FREQUENCY & CAPACITY folder

Your screen should look like the image below:

Click on “Run Query”.  As the Departure IATA Country Code(s) select ‘IT’ (Italy).  For the Year & Month Number opt for ‘200711’.
Then, click on ‘OK’ to run the report.

MAX Online displays the report showing the number of monthly departures by airline.

Rank the airlines by number of monthly departures by clicking into the ‘Frequency’ column and selecting ‘Descending’ from the ‘Apply/Remove’ sort sub-menu.

To calculate the total volume of flights, click into the data contained within the ‘Frequency’ column and select ‘Sum’ from the ‘Insert Sum’ sub menu.  A new row will be inserted at the foot of the table to display the total value.

Then, from the same menu calculate the frequency share by airline by
selecting the ‘Percentage’ option.  This will create an extra column to the right of the ‘Frequency’ column as shown in the following image.

Using the ‘Property’ tab in MAX Online you can change the format of the report to incorporate different fonts and colours.

In the example below we have highlighted the top 15 carriers.

To do so, please take the following steps:

  1. Click into the ‘Frequency’ column
  2. Click on the ‘Alerter’ button in the Report toolbar

  1. In the Alerter menu click on ‘New’
  2. Check the box for the ‘Alerter’ and click on ‘Ok’

An Alerter menu will appear from which you can set the values and cell properties that will be highlighted in the report.

In this example set the Operator as “Greater Than” and the Operand value to 490 (the value of the 16th carrier by number of flights.).

To format the cells to be highlighted in your preferred colour use the options available in the text and background menus that can be found in the ‘Format’ sub-menu.

When you are satisfied with your format options click OK.

Below is an example of how the final report could look like:
