TIP OF THE WEEK:

Produce a report to show the busiest regional airport by frequency during a one month period.

Example: For this analysis we will create a ranking report for the volume of flights departing from Middle Eastern airports over a month.

Start setting up your query using the yellow query filters:

Departure Region Code(s)

DEPARTURE FROM folder
Passenger (excluding surface) SERVICE folder
Operating Flights Only CODESHARE Folder
Year & Month Number(s)  PERIOD folder
Non-Stop Flights Only      ROUTING folder

Now select the following fields as Results Objects.

Departure Airport Code

DEPARTURE FROM folder
Departure Airport  Name DEPARTURE FROM folder
Frequency      FREQUENCY & CAPACITY folder

Your screen should look like the image below:

Click on Run Query and select ‘ME1’ as the ‘Departing Region Code(s) and 200610 as the ‘Year & Month Number(s)’.

Now click ‘OK’ to run the report.

The results display the total number of operating passenger flights offered by each of the Middle Eastern airports sorted in alphabetic order according to ‘Departure Airport Code’.

Following the steps below, we will modify the report to display a ranking by frequency for the airports of the Middle East.

Step 1 – Click into the data contained within the ‘Frequency’ column.

Step 2 – Rank the data in descending order using the ‘Apply/Remove Sort’ button in the report toolbar.

The report will appear as below

You may wish to include a total of all the operating passenger flights departing from Middle Eastern airports during the month of October.

Step 3 - Click in the data contained in the Frequency column.  Click on the ‘Sum’ option in the ‘Sum’ sub menu found in the report toolbar.  The total will be displayed at the bottom of the report.

Step 4 – Use the same sub menu to display the frequency shares by ensuring the data in the Frequency column is highlighted and selecting the ‘Percentage’ option.

Step 5 - Edit your report so that it looks like the image below using the options in the ‘Properties’ tab.
