TIP OF THE MONTH:

Conduct a market share analysis for a specific route.

Example: We will produce a report to reveal the market share for carriers operating the route Moscow to London based on monthly Available Seat Kilometres (ASKs).

On the homepage of MAX Online, click ‘Run a New Query’.
Start setting up your report by selecting the following yellow filters;

Departure City Code(s)

DEPARTURE FROM folder
Arrival City Code(s)       ARRIVAL TO folder
Passenger (excluding surface)     SERVICE folder
Operating Flights Only CODE SHARE folder
Year & Month Number(s)   PERIOD folder
Non-Stop Flights only ROUTING folder

Now select the following fields as Results Objects.

Carrier Airline Name

AIRLINE folder
Departure Airport Code   DEPARTURE FROM folder
Arrival Airport Code ARRIVAL TO folder
Frequency      FREQUENCY & CAPACITY folder

Your screen should look like the image below:

Click on “Run Query”.  As the Departure City Code(s) select ‘MOW’ and for the Arrival City Code(s) select ‘LON’.  For the Year & Month Number opt for ‘200801’.
Then, click on ‘OK’ to run the report.

MAX Online displays the report showing the monthly number of ASKs by airline and origin & destination.  In the Moscow to London market we can see that airlines operate flights out of both Domodedevo (DME) and Sheremetyevo (SVO) airport to London Heathrow

To gain a clearer view of the airlines operating out of each airport, click into the ‘Departure Airport Code’ column and use the ‘Insert/Remove Break’ option in the Report toolbar.

This will group the carriers by departing airport.

Then, display a ranking of the airlines by monthly ASKs by clicking into the ‘Available Seat Kilometres’ column and selecting ‘Descending’ from the ‘Apply/Remove Sort’ sub-menu.

To calculate the total number of ASKs, click into the data contained within the ‘Available Seat Kilometres’ column and select ‘Sum’ from the ‘Insert Sum’ sub menu.  A new row displaying the total value will appear at the foot of the report.

The report will be displayed as below.

Using the property tab in MAX Online you can display the report with the colours of your choice.  An example of how this could look like is below.
